Xian Lim and Kim Chiu Join Filipino Superstars

He is one of the many stars that will grace the stage of the “Para Sa Inyo, Kapamilya” benefit concert on May 26, Saturday at the Home Depot Center in Carson, California. Proceeds of the concert will benefit programs of ABS-CBN Foundation International, among them Bantay-Bata that helps indigent children in the Philippines.

Good looks, talent and a heart to help others—Xian Lim seems to have it all. His fans can’t seem to get enough of him.

Xian is grateful for their support, saying, “I didn’t expect the TFC fans, the support from abroad to be this strong. They would hug me. They told me I make them happy.”

Who would have known that a shy kid from Daly City, California would one day become one of the hottest Pinoy celebrities?

Xian was born and raised in the San Francisco Bay Area. He went to middle school at Benjamin Franklin in Daly City, an area with a big Filipino population.

Xian Lim grew up as an average kid. He wasn’t the smartest, most popular guy in this school. But those who remember him here said he was a kid who tried to get along well with everyone.

Cathy Stanley, his former Physical Ed teacher said she was surprised to hear that Xian is now a big star.

Stanley said, “He grew up a lot when he was in middle school. He was short and chubby. He grew up and he got skinny. Very nice and positive.”

Xian even admits that he got picked on at school. He shared, “People will call you fat. They’re going to put you down. In middle school, I didn’t have a lot of friends.”

He enrolled at Skyline College and worked in the marketing department of Costco in South San Francisco. His college friend, Daisy Manansala, got Xian a job there. She said, “I didn’t expect him to join show business.”

Neither did Xian. He moved to the Philippines originally intending to purse college basketball. But in 2008, a photographer urged him to try show business. He was introduced to Star Magic Head Johnny Manahan. And for Xian, there’s been no turning back since.

Hollywood is something he thinks about, but for now, Xian said he’s happy to be a star in his home country.

“I’m going to take it step by step. Just live each day and work. If there’s opportunities — why not? There’s always room for everything.”

Xian and his on screen love team Kim Chiu join Filipino superstars Charice, Apl D Ap, Bamboo and Martin Nievera at the “Para Sa Inyo Kapamilya” benefit concert on Saturday.
