JM De Guzman admitted he is still on cloud nine after the success of the Angelito: Ang Batang Ama’s first season. The 23-year-old actor said that this is the time for him to prioritize his career over everything else. “Una siyempre yung career ko ngayon. Sobrang binigay lang ito out of the blue. I came from nothing, I came from zero. Actor lang ako nun pero ngayon meron na akong dumadating na blessings na hindi ko ito aaksayahin. So gusto ko na mas ma-improve pa ito, mas umangat pa hopefully. Sa ngayon talaga wala akong kinakatakutan, kung ano man yung naging issues basta ginagawa ko yung trabaho ko,” he shared.
Even though he is busy with tapings and other showbiz commitments, JM said that he still manages to bond with his loved ones. “Sa ngayon siguro focused ako sa trabaho pero hindi naman nawawala yung time ko with friends and family, andun naman sila so dun ako kumukuha ng source of happiness,” he said.
Although there are persistent reports that he is dating Jessy Mendiola, JM downplayed this by just admitting that he has nothing but admiration for her. “Crush ko siya. Tao lang naman tayo kaya nagkaka-crush so wala rin namang mawawala basta yung trabaho ko, hindi ko pababayaan. And I will give back lahat ng blessings and lahat ng binigay sa akin ni Jesus. With Jessy, honestly I’m looking forward din sana na mabigyan ng chance to work with her kasi I really admire her, mabait siyang tao so hindi ko naman ma-de-deny na maganda siya and yun ang alam ko na mabait siyang tao so sana, hopefully pero ngayon talaga nasa Angelito: Ang Bagong Yugto pa ako,” he shared. But even if he does end up in a relationship with someone from showbiz, JM hinted that he is not the type to tell all. “Siyempre lahat naman tayo ayaw natin i-broadcast yung personal nating buhay, so ganun,” he admitted. JM assured the press at the state of his heart nowadays, “It’s jumping, jumping for joy (laughs).”
As the lead character in Angelito: Ang Bagong Yugto, JM said that he also feels a responsibility to the viewers to educate them about being responsible and other family values. “Hindi naman natin mapipigilan ngayon yung mga kabataan sa pre-marital sex, ang masasabi ko lang siguro bilang actor, ang responsibilidad ko ang masabi sa mga tao, sa mga magulang at mga bata na may mabigat na kapalit yun, hindi yun laro, meron yung malaking puwedeng kapalit. Yun ang main focus namin dun, makapag-educate and inform people especially children and parents. Dito rin sa show, madaming matuturo tungkol sa pagmamahal, kung paano ba talaga magmahal. Ang pagiging selfless, pagiging matulungin, supportive, maintindihin,” he said.
