What drives Dingdong Dantes to gamble hard-earned money to produce movies? His answer: passion.
Under his Agosto Dos Pictures, Dingdong partnered with Reality Entertainment, Post Manila and GMA Films to produce “Tiktik: The Aswang Chronicles.” Directed by Erik Matti, it is the first horror film in the Philippines that uses full CGI.
Although it is expensive, Dingdong was lured to the movie because he wants to produce movies that are “different.”
“Mas matindi ang excitement kasi bukod sa nandun ako para gumanap bilang artista, as a producer, I’m very excited that I will be part of something that’s groundbreaking in Philippine Cinema,” explained Dingdong.
How much did he invest in “Tiktik: The Aswang Chronicles?”
Invites to int’l filmfests
According to Dingdong, as early as now, their hard work is paying off. They’ve been getting requests to submit the movie to international film festivals. This also excites him. So as soon as everything’s ready, the producers will be sending materials.
Another exciting aspect of the upcoming movie is that it’s coupled with a graphic novel Dingdong described as educational and informative. The said comic book contains artworks or sketches of the film’s production designers as well as the actors’ images before and after they have been rendered in CGI.
In the movie, Dingdong plays Makoy, a good-for-nothing drunkard of a boyfriend. Without giving out the whole plot, he added that his character will have a life-changing experience because of the “aswangs.”
“All I can say is that lahat ng mga taong involved dito, yung labor of love more than ano mang talent fee na nagamit para ibayad sa amin ang ginamit. They were very enthusiastic because alam nila na first ito sa Philippine Cinema.
Also in the cast are Lovi Poe, Joey Marquez, Janice de Belen, LJ Reyes, Mike Gayoso, Ramon Bautista, Harley Pacana and Roi Vinzon. The movie is based on the screenplay of Erik Matti and Ronald Stephen Monteverde.
