Sarah Geronimo joins relief efforts

Showbiz personalities transcend mere fame and become valuable to others when they put their celebrity status to good use, according to Pop Star Princess Sarah Geronimo.

Straight from a vacation in Hong Kong, the singer-actress joined ABS-CBN's Sagip Kapamilya on Saturday to deliver relief goods in Fairview, Quezon City -- an area wrought with heavy floods after non-stop rains in Metro Manila and parts of Luzon in recent days.

Geronimo is not the first TV personality to take part in relief efforts for flood-hit families. Of the continuous outpouring of help from her fellow celebrities, the Pop Star Princess said: "Masaya po ako na nakakatulong po tayo."

The 24-year-old singer also considers as a gift her being able to bring inspiration to others amid trying situations.

"Pinagpapasalamat po natin sa Diyos, na without doing anything, 'yung pag-ngiti mo lang, iba na 'yung nabibigay mong saya sa mga tao, so grateful tayo sa Diyos na may ganu’n tayong gift, na nakakapagbigay-inspirasyon sa ibang mga tao," she told ABS-CBN News.

Solidarity among Pinoys

Geronimo also asserted the importance of solidarity amid national calamities -- a feat she recalled was achieved during the time of "Ondoy" in 2009.

A subject of recent headlines herself, Geronimo trivialized the issue of her failed romance with young actor Gerald Anderson, in light of the recent calamity.

"Kung ito nga kinakaya natin, [iyon] pa kaya hindi ko kakayanin," she said.
