Hosted by KC Concepcion, Aga Muhlach, Derek Ramsay and Anne Curtis, the 28th PMPC Star Awards for Movies proved to be an exciting event as it gave recognition to seven movies for the mainstream category (In The Name of Love, Ang Panday 2, Aswang, Manila Kingpin: The Asiong Salonga Story, No Other Woman, The Road and My Neighbor’s Wife) and seven digital movies (Ang Babae Sa Septic Tank Ang Sayaw Ng Dalawang Kaliwang Paa, Ikaw Ang Pag-ibig, Thelma, Patikul, Sa Ilalim Ng Tulay, and Nino) held at the Meralco Theater last night, March 14.
Angel Locsin bagged the Best Actress Award for her remarkable portrayal of a woman who is reunited with her former lover right after her engagement to a governor’s son in the movie, In The Name Of Love. In her speech, she particularly thanked Star Cinema bigwigs Malou Santos and Olivia Lamasan, “Inang, Direk Olive Lamasan, kaya po ako nandito dahil sa inyo po Inang. Kayo po ang the best para sa amin. Pero inaalaay ko ito sa lahat ng nagmamahal sa akin. Again, sa PMPC, Tita Malou Santos, Inang, thank you so much for making my dream come true.”
Best Actor awardee Aga Muhlach also thanked Direk Olive for bringing out the best in him despite the struggles they went through while shooting In The Name of Love. “Inang, you quit on me sa movie na ito, ilang beses yun, talagang ayaw mo na. Pero in the end talagang sinuportahan mo ako all the way, hindi mo ako pinabayaan. Itong pelikulang ito, inaalay ko sa’yo itong award na ito. Star Cinema maraming salamat. Itong film na ito ay mananatili sa puso ko.” In The Name of Love was Aga’s last project in ABS-CBN before he transferred to a rival network.
Gov. E.R. Ejercito (a.k.a. Joerge Estregan Jr.) also won Best Actor for Manila Kingpin: The Asiong Salonga Story, which actually garnered a total of eight awards for various categories including best picture, cinematography and musical scoring. “I’d like to thank one of the best and most brilliant directors in Asia, Direk Tikoy Aguiluz, ang galing mo! And also to our brilliant team, I am very proud that I was able to organize a good team for Asiong Salonga. Our first intention was to create a quality film for international release but we’re very fortunate na ito’y napasama sa 2011 Metro Manila Film Festival. I worked with the best team. All our hard work was worth it.”
