Asiansation Christian Bautista knows where he wants to take his career though a bit unclear on how to do it.
“I want to show a different side of me, excite my loyal fans and gain new ones, fight for my career,” he told Bulletin Entertainment and select members of media at a recent interview.
“I need to keep the fire inside me alive.”
The balladeer has started writing his own music lately in a bid to show off his versatility and explore a sound that some may not expect from him. He also appears on ABS-CBN teleserye “Princess And I” and is set to play the title role in upcoming ballet musical “Rama Hari.” He is waiting for “Kitchen Musical” second season to begin, hopefully by next year.
Though Christian doesn’t aspire to be the next Gary Valenciano (“I can’t dance”) or the next Martin Nievera (“I’m not as witty”), he believes that staying true to himself will pave the way for longevity in the business.
He’s not going to take the sexy route just to get there.
“Hindi kasi bagay sa image ko as balladeer ang magpakita ng katawan habang kumakanta. It’s kinda off,” said he, who once participated in an underwear fashion show.
Christian admits that he is bent on coming up with the next OPM big hit akin to his signature smash, “The Way You Look At Me.” Even though he has been in the business for a decade now, and considers himself a “veteran,” the balladeer admits that he still thinks about these things.
“Pag nawala kasi ‘yung apoy na ‘yon…parang pera-pera na lang ang lahat,” he said, shaking his head.
His contract with ABS-CBN expires on August but Christian said that for now, he is happy with the Kapamilya network. He admits feeling “valued” to have been given a tell-all musical special titled “The Way You Look At Me: The Christian Bautista 10th Anniversary Special” that airs on the channel on July 8 at 11 p.m.. According to a release, Christian will have duets with ex-girlfriend Rachelle Ann Go and with OPM icon Jose Mari Chan. Also joining the balladeer in the celebration are Iza Calzado, Sam Milby, Jovit Baldivino, Marcelito Pomoy, Bugoy Drilon, Khalil Ramos, and Angeline Quinto.
Asked about his girlfriend, Romanian-Chinese actress Carla Dunareanu, the balladeer proudly reported that her career in the Philippines has started taking off. Aside from shooting a commercial, Dunareanu is also a jock for a popular radio station and is now being managed by Girlie Rodis.
Wedding bells soon?
“No, not yet,” he said. “I’m happy I waited for someone like her – the right one---to come into my life so we’re taking it easy, enjoying what we have.”
Looking back on his tenure in show business, Christian candidly admits that not everything was smooth sailing. But his faith in God, he said, led him to where he is now.
“Ngayon mas kumalma na ako. Sabi ni God, ‘Easy ka lang, Ako ang bahala sa yo.’”
