MANILA, Philippines – After "Dahil sa Pag-ibig," actor Piolo Pascual is set to star in upcoming Kapamilya soap "Apoy sa Dagat."
Pascual, who last played Father Alfred in the recently concluded "Dahil sa Pag-ibig," will trade donning Catholic vestments for multiple days at sea in his newest project with actress Angelica Panganiban.
"I'm going to start working on 'Apoy sa Dagat' with Angelica next week. Magte-training na ako for the show," Pascual said during the finale party for "Pag-ibig" on Friday.
Early this month, the national heartthrob said he "couldn't resist" taking on "Apoy" as his next project because of its "new" concept, as well as the added challenge of his role being "very physical."
"It's drama, maganda 'yung concept, kaya hindi ko rin natanggihan. ABS has to come up with new, difficult concepts. It's big, we're going places. [It's] very phsyical, it's physically challenging -- may water element," Pascual said at the time.
Closed chapter
Pascual's involvement in the new project immediately after "Pag-ibig" all but confirms the Cristine Reyes-starrer has come to a definite end; there is no book two in sight, Pascual said.
"Na-resolve naman lahat ng conflict so we're happy. We ended on a high note and maganda 'yung conclusion ng bawat character, maganda 'yung resolution so I don't see a book two happening," Pascual said.
"Maganda 'yung nasimulan mo, maganda 'yung natapos mo, move on na tayo, okay 'yun, masaya 'yun," he added.
In the final episode of "Dahil sa Pag-ibig" that aired Friday, Fr. Alfred (Pascual) is seen as the presiding priest in the marriage of Agnes (Maricar Reyes) and Oliver (Jericho Rosales), his former nemesis. Meanwhile, Fr. Alfred and his childhood love Jasmin (Reyes) have resolved to part ways after their tumultuous romance.
