Gerald Anderson and Rayver Cruz Nakipag-ball Game kay Cong. Angara

Aurora Representative Sonny Angara and hot celebs Gerald Anderson and Rayver Cruz took time off their busy schedules on July 14 in order to play basketball against the Boys Home Team comprised by residents of Boys' Town.

Angara, who invited the stars to Manila Boys' Town Complex in Marikina, marked his 40th birthday on July 15 and it was for this reason that the exhibition game was held. The Congressman also visited Golden Acres a few days prior.

"Andali lang kausap ng grupo nila Gerald, ni hindi na nga namin kinailangan dumaan sa Star Magic kasi pumayag agad sila sa imbitasyon namin kasi talaga palang naglalaro sila mg basketball twice, thrice a week," Angara said in an interview.

"At siguro ay nakita nila na gusto natin tumulong so madali na din para sa kanila na sabihin 'Uy, kami din, gusto din naming makatulong in our own way.' Wala silang superstar complex at all."

Anderson, Rayver and their celeb friends arrived at Boys Town dressed for the part and ready to play ball. Though at first the stars seemed to have been "letting" Boys Home Team win, they eventually wizened up and gave their best seeing that their opponents were not easy to defeat.

After the game, Angara joined the community for lunch during which he also turned over supplies needed by the community such as vitamins and toiletries.

Asked about "40 being the new 20" when it comes to age, Angara said, "I agree lalo na ngayon na maganda ang kondisyon ng medisina. Kumbaga, mas aware na tayo sa tamang nutrisyon at kung ano ang mas nakabubuti sa kalusugan.

"Yung mga 40 years old ngayon, nagagawa na nila yung mga bagay na di dati kayang gawin ng mga ka-edaran nila. There's a new lease in life, ika nga."

Has he ever considered becoming an actor?

"Maraming mas qualified sa atin pag dating dyan at wala pa namang nagaalok. Basta, I'm at that age when I'm open to try things that I haven't done before because I might never have the chance to do them kung palipasin ko pa ang panahon at pagkakataon."

Angara has a soft spot for the residents of Boys' Town since he, himself, has three children.

"The Boys' Town community...gives these kids and elderly what they have been deprived of ---a loving home. Without the Boys' Town community, they would likely still be living I the streets, hard up and needy," the congressman was quoted to have said in a release.

Angara added that fatherhood has affected even his viewing preference. He admits that he now gets "touched" by scenes between father and son, unlike when he was still a bachelor.

"Kaya ng if you ask me kung ano ang birthday wish ko, natupad na. Tama na sa akin na napasaya ko tong mga bata. Sana ay nagenjoy din sila gaya namin."
