Marian Rivera harbors no illusion that fame and success last forever as her
grandmother taught her to be pragmatic early in life.
"Pinaunawa niya sa akin na ang buhay ay mabilis lang," she explains in a recent appearance on GMA-7's "Tunay Na Buhay."
"Na kailangan magaling ka mag-isip, [na] kailangan lahat ng pinag-hihirapan mo ilalagay mo sa bagay na alam mong hindi mo pagsisisihan."
Far from resting on her showbiz laurels, Rivera has already invested in several business ventures including a couple of apartment complexes. Four years ago, Rivera bought and developed La Casa Buena, which already has 12 units. Just recently she acquired another set of apartments consisting of four units.
She admits that all of it came from her earnings in show business.
"Kasi sa bawa't kita, katulad sa bawa't soap, may goal ako," she shares, recalling the marks she set for herself when she started making money via the hugely successful series, "Marimar."
"Tinanong ko sarili ko, 'Ano ang goal ko pagkatapos ng 'Marimar'? 'Etong kinita ko sa 'Marimar' ano ang i-invest ko dito?' So, nilista ko. Number one gusto ko bumili ng bagong van, number two, gusto kong bumili ng lupa, 'tapos 'yang mga lupa na 'yan at 'yung van na 'yan may total na 'yan. Kung magkano 'yung price niya...may mga ganu'on na ako. So kailangan bago matapos 'yung 'Marimar' 'yung total ko, kung magkano man, kailangan makita ko 'yun."
Today, the 27-year old is more than happy with all the blessings that she continues to receive; ones that she says make her feel complete.
"Kulang? Sa ngayon masasabi ko wala. Kasi si nanay [her grandmother], ang tanging hiling ko lang gusto ko malakas siya at humaba pa ‘yung pagsasama naming dalawa," she said. "Si mama [naman, sana ang] maging masaya din siya sa buhay niya sa partner niya."
Rivera doesn't even wonder why fate blessed her with so much as she considers herself quite a giving creature.
"Todo ako magmahal. Lahat ng meron ako ibibigay ko. 'Di ba sabi nila 'pag binigay mo ang kamay mo pati braso [ibigay mo]? Ako walang ganu'on, buong katawan ko ibinibigay ko."
Rivera advises people to maintain strong desire and determination to succeed.
"Ang buhay kasi eh, parang gulong. Umiikot at umiikot talaga tayo," she said. "At dahil sa pag-ikot na 'yan marami kang pag-dadaanang mga pagsubok. Pero basta ginusto mo, may nagmamahal sa 'yo, makukuha lahat sa dasal. At tatayo at tatayo ka. Kailangan sasabihin mo sa sarili mo, 'Walang sinuman puedeng pumigil sa akin basta't gusto ko.'"
Rivera, who started her career as a commercial model, is among the highest paid actresses of her generation according to a list culled by Finance Manila in 2011.
She first ventured into acting via Tape, Inc., which allowed her supporting roles in several soap operas.
In 2007, she bested several other established actresses including Rhian Ramos, Jennylyn Mercado, Karylle, Pauleen Luna and Bianca King for the lead role in the remake of "Marimar," then went on to appear in several other hits including, "Dyesebel" and "Darna."
Just recently, she appeared on "My Beloved" opposite her boyfriend, Dingdong Dantes.
