The Mistress has reportedly earned P140 million as of yesterday, September 18.
This was announced by Star Cinema earlier today, September 19, during the movie’s victory party held at the ABS-CBN compound in Quezon City.
The movie's lead actress, Bea Alonzo, attended the said event, but her leading man, John Lloyd Cruz, was unable to go because he had a shooting for a TV commercial.
Bea is proud of this adult drama film which was directed by Olivia Lamasan.
Written by Vanessa Valdez, The Mistress tackles the controversial issue of infidelity. In the film, Bea is cast as a suit maker named Sari who becomes the mistress of a businessman played by veteran actor Ronaldo Valdez.
According to Star Cinema, the movie earned P23 million during its opening day last September 12 and reached the P100-million mark last Saturday, September 15.
Bea said she did not expect their film to do this well in the box office.
"Actually we were talking about it bago pa ang playdate.
Masyadong adult.’
"So nakaka-proud yung Filipino audience."
ON BEING COMPARED TO VILMA SANTOS. During the presscon, veteran entertainment writer Mario Bautista said that Bea’s performance in The Mistress reminded him of the time when Vilma Santos accepted mature roles.
There are those predicting that Bea and John Lloyd will be able to reach the success of the Vilma Santos-Christopher de Leon loveteam.
What's Bea's reaction to this?
“Mabigat ‘yan,” the actress said.
“Sana.
DARING SCENES WITH JOHN LLOYD CRUZ. Did Bea hesitate to do the scenes wherein she took John Lloyd’s hand and placed it on her sensitive parts?
The actress said, “Noong una, kinakabahan ako, kagaya ng kissing scene with Tito Ron [Ronaldo Valdez]… yung parang love scene with Tito Ron, alam ko kasama talaga siya sa pelikula.
“When you say yes to this kind of film, parang wala kang karapatan na mag-‘no’ sa mga ganun.
She added with a laugh: “Akala ko nga mas matindi pa dun, e!
Direk Olivia then revealed that they actually cut short the love scene of John Lloyd and Bea that was shown in the movie.
The director said, “Actually, yung nakita ninyong love scene, toned down.
"Ang original kasi nun two minutes, then pina-tone down sa amin ni Malou [Santos, managing director of Star Cinema].
"Pero okay lang.”
WATCHING THE FILM WITH HER BOYFRIEND. What was the reaction of Zanjoe Marudo, Bea’s boyfriend, when he watched her daring scenes?
After the screening, according to Bea, Zanjoe stood up and enthusiastically cheered inside the cinema.
"Nakakahiya, para siyang naging block screening kasi nag-picture taking kami after.”
INTERNATIONAL PREMIERE IN FRANCE. Last September 15, Bea and John Lloyd attended the international premiere of The Mistress in Nice, France.
How did moviegoers there react to this adult drama film?
Bea said, “Ang ganda ng reaction nila…somehow nakaka-relate sila. Nakakatuwa.
First time kasi namin na magpunta and I believe si Lloydie [John Lloyd] first time na nag-show doon.”
Bea mentioned that she wants to go to France with her boyfriend so they could enjoy a vacation there.
"So four days ako doon.”
