Theirs is a love story straight out of a romantic-comedy flick. Barely friends -- almost even at odds from their previous working relationship -- Bea Alonzo and Zanjoe Marudo had to pretend as lovers for a night at a party. Little did they know, the chance encounter would spell the start of a real romance.
In an interview with "Showbiz Inside Report" aired Saturday, Alonzo recounted her first meeting with Marudo, then a "fresh graduate" from the reality TV show "Pinoy Big Brother" as a housemate.
Although the two had a rough start playing onscreen lovers in a 2011 episode of the drama anthology "Maalaala Mo Kaya," their encounter at a bar would offer an opportunity to start over.
An elderly man had been persistent in wooing Alonzo that night, the actress recalled, forcing her to enlist Marudo's help by having him as her pretend boyfriend for the night.
Some time later, the two would find themselves in a similar situation. At another party, Alonzo, having arrived alone, felt awkward by her lonesome. Marudo was quick to come to her rescue, as he offered to accompany her as her "boyfriend" for the night.
According to Alonzo, this paved the way to a good friendship between her and the hunk actor, until they finally made it official as a couple by her simply saying, "Tayo na."
