Star Cinema's "The Mistress" is now close to becoming the highest-grossing Filipino film of all time.
During the movie's victory party on Monday, Star Cinema announced that "The Mistress" has already grossed P300 million worldwide.
The record for highest-grossing local film is still held by last year's “The Unkabogable Praybeyt Benjamin," which earned P331.5 million, according to the website Box Office Mojo.
Present during the party were lead stars John Lloyd Cruz and Bea Alonzo, who were personally congratulated by ABS-CBN chairman Eugenio "Gabby" Lopez III.
"Nagpapasalamat dahil sa tinatangkilik ang pelikula hindi lang dahil sa hype kung hindi dahil talagang maganda ang pelikula," said Cruz, who admitted that it was a blessing to him to be part of the film considering that he was not the first choice for the movie.
"More than the success, parang 'yung impact. Ang ganda kasi ng project so nakakapanghinayang kung hindi natuloy. I'm just happy na nakasama ako," he added.
Asked if he is now expecting to be crowned this year's Box Office King, Cruz replied: "Let's wait and see kasi mahaba pa ang itatakbo, may ilang buwan pa. At iba na din ang ruling, may mga nagbago na, so hindi ko alam."
For her part, Alonzo said she's just happy that the Filipino moviegoers have embraced the movie.
"Very, very happy kami na naging open-minded ang Filipino audience," said Alonzo, who's also in the running for the Box Office Queen title. "I'm wishing na magkatotoo 'yan pero it's too early to tell kasi hindi pa tapos ang taon, tatlong buwan pa. I wish pero parang mahirap pang i-claim yan."
The actress added that the film's success was the perfect way to mark their 10th year of their screen partnership.
"Napakalaking gift niyo for us," said Alonzo, who will next appear with Cruz in the upcoming TV series "A Beautiful Affair," which will air by the end of October.
Also present at Monday's party were director Olivia Lamasan and cast members Ronald Valdez, Carmi Martin, K Brosas and Anita Linda.
