Enrique Gil refuses to be affected by viewers who don’t like his team-up with Kathryn Bernardo. He admitted that taping Princess and I has become more challenging with the growing conflict between his character Prince Jao, Princess Mikay (Kathryn), and Gino (Daniel Padilla). “Okay naman, we’re trying to work on it lalo na si direk Rory Quintos [mabusisi] sa mga eksena namin kasi pataas ng pataas ang emotions namin ngayon eh. Medyo haywire yung emotions nina Mikay, Jao, at Gino. Kaya level up din ang acting,” he said in an interview with Push.com.ph.
Incidentally, one of the current highlights of the soap is Prince Jao and Princess Mikay’s engagement. When asked how he feels that it’s his turn to be in the spotlight together with Kathryn, he maintained that he’s really professional when it comes to their onscreen tandem. “Masaya siyempre. Basta sa story na ito fair naman sa characters. May moment sila ni Gino may moment din si Mikay at Jao so bounce-bounce lang ‘yan eh. Basta follow the story to see kung sino ang magkakatuluyan in the end.”
Since there are also a big number of fans rooting for Daniel and Kathryn’s team-up, it is quite expected that some viewers are not happy with where the plot is heading at the moment. It’s a good thing that Enrique doesn’t let online bashers affect him. “Hindi naman [ako nakaka-receive ng hate mails] sa email. Sa Twitter siguro merong iba pero hindi naman ako mahilig mag-Twitter masyado. Buti na lang wala naman akong nababasa na bashers so that I won’t feel bad. Siyempre story lang ‘to, teleserye lang ‘to, relax lang po.”
At this point in his career, Enrique feels blessed with all the opportunities coming his way. Aside from Princess And I, he’s also part of the 2012 Metro Manila Film Fest entry The Strangers. “Kapatid ko si Julia Montes. Family kasi kami tapos may journey kami papunta sa probinsya. Tapos may unexpected turn of events na nangyari sa trip na ‘yon. That’s where the story starts—combination siya ng suspense, action, at horror.” Other members of the cast include Enchong Dee, JM de Guzman, Janice de Belen, and Cherry Pie Picache.
