After spending almost two weeks in Bhutan shooting scenes for the upcoming Primetime Bida series the Princess and I, Enrique Gil said he enjoyed his first working experience abroad. The 19-year-old actor said the country was very different from the places he visited previously, like Paris, Germany, Hawaii, Los Angeles, San Diego, Las Vegas, and Spain.
“I enjoyed it kasi medyo exotic yung place, it’s something new. Okay naman sa akin. The weather was really cold. Winter dun ngayon so parang everything was just new, that’s all. Puro bundok, basta super iba yung environment dun. pero masaya naman. I enjoyed it,” he shared with Push.com.ph.
Enrique also admitted he got closer to co-star Kathryn Bernardo whom he says is a very sweet person. “Oo naman naging closer kami sobra. Siyempre kung hindi eh di waste of time lang yung pag-bonding namin dun ‘di ba? So buti na lang hindi limited yung time namin na magkasama. Doon, usually sa gabi pagod na lahat eh so everybody just wants to be in their room kasi super lamig sa labas. But before that we make sure na naglolokohan kami, kumakain ng laging sabay kasama handler ko, si Kathryn, mommy niya, buong crew,” he said.
Enrique said one of his favorite bonding moments with Kathryn happened during the latter part of their stay. “One time nung last day or second to the last day namin sa Bhutan, naglakad kami ni Kath at saka nung makeup artist namin sa city. Yung iba lahat nauna na so kami naglakad kami from the city all the way to the hotel. So yun ang mga bonding moments namin. Masaya. Nakita pa namin yung king na dumaan sa side ng road. Marami kaming nakitang mga cops tapos nakita namin yung king kaya astig, ang saya,” he recalled.
Enrique also explained why he referred to Kathryn as ‘Potato and Cheese’ on Twitter. “Sa Bhutan kasi, yung food nila dun, mostly vegetables at saka chili. Yun lang basically (laughs). I called her that kasi yun lang kinakain niya dun kasi hindi siya mahilig sa vegetables so kinakin lang niya dun potato and cheese. Pag may potato and cheese, kaya nakaka-survive siya (laughs),” he shared.
In the Princess and I, Enrique said their fans can expect something totally new characters. “It’s really something new for me and Kathryn, totally iba yung ugali namin dito sa roles na pino-portray namin. Si Kath sobrang iba kay Mara (the character the actress played in Mara Clara), sobrang iba. Siya yung super outgoing, makulit na kenkoy na taga-Sampaloc. So ganun yung flavor niya. Ako naman medyo iba yung accent, iba yung tindig kasi parang prince-like dapat. So lahat kami super iba,” he added.
