Aside from having her hands full preparing for her upcoming teleserye in the Kapamilya network, Iza Calzado is also excited to be part of the newest movie of John Lloyd Cruz and Sarah Geronimo. “Until now I’m only allowed to say about the teleserye is that its under the direction of Direk Wenn Deramas pero magsisimula na kami sa April mag-taping at abangan niyo yan at siyempre bukod sa soap opera, meron din akong Biggest Loser mid-year. I have ASAP twice a month and of course MMK. Nakakaisa pa lang ako, may tatalo pa ako! So abangan niyo yan Sa movie naman, abangan niyo na lang kasi it’s good they are all wondering kung ano yung magiging role ko so isa yan sa mga dapat niyong abangan, kung ano nga ba ang magiging character ko, manggugulo ba ako o magiging maayos ba ang kuwento nila dahil sa akin, ano nga ba talaga ako sa pelikulang yan? Hindi ko naman sila tatapunan ng wine or ng tubig dito (laughs). Very Cherie Gil and Sharon Cuneta yun (laughs),” she shares during her contract-signing agreement at the Star Records office inside the ABS-CBN compound.
The 29-year-old actress signed a three-picture deal with Star Cinema for the next two years. “Ang kauna-unahang pelikula na gagawin ko ay yung pelikula nila John Lloyd Cruz at Sarah Geronimo at ngayon ay makakasama na nila ako sa ikatlong installment of the series. I’ll have two other films which of course pag-uusapan pa at titingnan kung ano yung type ng pelikula, kung sino yung makakasama, anong storya. Hopefully at least one of them will be drama, heavy drama,” she admits.
Iza admits she feels honored to be considered for a role in John Lloyd and Sarah’s successful movie franchise. “Masaya ako kung ganun dahil ibig sabihin nun magiging maganda na naman kumbaga dahil nasubukan na sila so I’m pretty sure that this third installment will be just as fantastic as the first two. And hopefully I will add a different kind of flavor to the film and because it is a romantic comedy I am also very excited and na-challenge ako kasi hindi pa ako gumawa ng rom-com na pelikula. Pero medyo naka-comedy ako kaya laging serious yung role ko sa mga comedy films na nagawa ko so tingnan natin kung paano maiiba dito. Abangan niyo,” she shares.
The talented actress adds she is happy to be seeing a lot of familiar faces in her new Star Cinema family. “This is technically not my first film with Star Cinema because I did Milan in 2004. Ang nakasama ko dun si Direk Olive who directed it and Direk Cathy who was her assistant at that time who now is directing this film so now I get to work with her again so it’s a reunion of sorts talaga. This whole move, the beginning of my journey has just been getting re-acquainted with a lot of people that I’ve
worked with or that my father has worked with in the past.”
Iza also says that she already has a long wish list of actors and actresses she would like to work with ever since transferring to the Kapamilya network. “Well I’m already working with John Lloyd for this one. Of course I would like to work with Piolo again, Jericho tapos there’s just so many people to choose from. There’s also the female leads, Bea,, Angel, KC, Ann, and Karylle. I would like to work with her. Ang daming puwedeng pagpilian talaga.”
