Andi Eigenmann will make a comeback to primetime television through ABS-CBN’s upcoming teleserye titled Kahit Puso’y Masugatan.
During the July 5 press conference of her new show, Andi says that she’s inspired to work hard because of her daughter Adrianna Gabrielle. The 22-year-old actress gave birth to her daughter (nicknamed Ellie) in November 2011.
Andi revealed that she plans to tap former Minsan Lang Kita Iibigin co-star Coco Martin as one of the godfathers for her daughter’s baptism. Angel Locsin, Divine Lee, Megan Young, Jake Cuenca and ABS-CBN executive Deo Endrinal are the other showbiz personalities who will be tapped to be Ellie’s godparents.
HER TV COMEBACK. Kahit Puso’y Masugatan deals with two women whose bond of sisterhood will be challenged when they fall for the same man. Directed by Wenn Deramas, this show is the first teleserye of former GMA-7 actress Iza Calzado with the Kapamilya Network.
Iza describes her character by saying, “Ako po dito si Andrea, isang righteous na babae…laging [ginagawa] kung anong tama. Si Andrea ang magiging parang ate ni Veronica.”
She later pointed out: “May mga relationships na generally taboo pero makikita natin kung paano matatanggap ng bawat isa ang bawat sitwasyon nila.”
For her part, Andi says about her character: “Ako si Veronica, isa akong ulila na lumaki with Andrea. Lumaki kami as best friends. Si Jake naman para kong brother.”
Jake Cuenca is the man torn between the two ladies. “My character name here is Rafael de Guzman. Namatay na ang mama ko at nag-decide ako na pumunta ng America para makapag move on ang tatay niya sa mga problema niya.”
Rafael faces a dilemma when his wealthy dad, Miguel (Gabby Concepcion), falls for Andrea and even asks her hand in marriage.
Meanwhile, Andi’s mother in real life, Jaclyn Jose, is cast as Ester. She says about her character: “Kapatid ako ni DJ Durano, kaibigan ng nanay ni Iza Calzado. Napunta siya sa amin nang mamatay ang nanay niya dahil sa isang barilan incident.”
Direk Wenn summed up the plot by saying, “Tungkol ito sa apat na nilalang na naghahanap ng kaligayahan sa mundong ito at sa paghahanap na yun, lahat sila magkakamali…
“Malalaki ang mga eksena dito: may barilan sa Tondo, may talunan sa bridge…”
ANDI ON WORKING WITH HER MOM. This marks the first time that real-life mother and daughter tandem Jaclyn Jose and Andi Eigenmann have been given the chance to work on one project together.
Andi considers this project as a blessing. “I know my mom is one of the most respected actresses now so kahit mommy ko siya, I see that way pa rin. Just as any other newbie would be honored to work with her, ako rin po. Hindi ko siya nakikita as mommy ko…At work, she’s Jaclyn Jose.”
For her part, Jaclyn admitted: “Ako siyempre, ninenerbiyos dahil anak pero excited ako to be with my daughter sa isang soap at kay Direk Wenn [Deramas] pa.”
KAPUSO-TURNED-KAPAMILYA ACTRESS. Since this is her first time to star in a Kapamilya teleserye, does Iza feel pressured?
“Mahigit isang taon po akong napahinga from making a teleserye. Siyempre po, kinakabahan ako pero mas excited ako kaysa kinakabahan. Mas nananaig ang positive energy.”
Does she feel like she has to prove something to the public?
“There’s always a thing in me that I have to prove something…that my first soap [in ABS-CBN] will be a good one. Gusto kong patunayan sa sarili ko na kaya ko pa dahil matagal nga po akong napahinga. Gusto ko ring patunayan ko sa mga magulang ko na kaya kong maging mas mabuting artista at tao kaysa noong nandito pa sila. I want them to be proud of me.”
It will be recalled that Iza’s father, Lito Calzado, died in November 2011 due to liver cancer. Her mother, Mary Ann Usher, died a decade earlier.
How does she deal with a broken heart? Iza sighed before answering, “Iiyak lang po. ‘Yan ang una kong ginagawa when I feel pain.”
How long ago did she deal with a broken heart?
“Isang taon na naman ang nakalipas,” said Iza about the end of her two-and-a-half year relationship with businessman Atticus King.
“Hindi lang ito sa relationship ha kasi pwede masugatan rin ang puso mo sa career, kapag may failures, I think the best thing to do is keep the faith.”
Iza expressed her gratitude to the people who helped her feel at home in her new mother network.
“Nung lumipat ako sa ABS-CBN, I braced myself for an environment na ‘trabaho lang ito.’ Hindi ko alam kung makakahanap ako ng mga taong tatratuhin rin ako na pamilya kasi siyempre, for 10 years, iba ang nakasanayan mo at pamilya mo na rin. But I’m very happy to say that yung unit ni Direk Lauren [Dyogi], they have been taking such good care of me. Wala po akong masabing negatibo. Sobrang tutok at alaga…”
Will Iza and Gabby Concepcion shoot love scenes in this teleserye?
Direk Wenn asked back, “Mapangahas na eksena? Bakit hindi? Nasa edad na naman si Iza.”
