Thousands witness a maturing Sarah Geronimo in concert

MANILA, Philippines – Thousands of fans and the plain curious packed the Smart Araneta Coliseum on Saturday night to watch Sarah Geronimo in a concert that showcased her maturing vocal gifts and engaging performance style.
Dubbed “24/SG” – a reference to her coming 24th birthday on July 25 – Geronimo sang pop, dance and rock tunes including her own past hits in a manner that emphasized mood and feelings, rather than power. Even her dance moves exuded charm and energy, instead of just showing off complicated steps.
Although a strong lineup of guests which included The CompanY, Anton Alvarez, Basil Valdez, Sam
Concepcion, Ayen Aguila, Bamboo and Jon Santos stretched the show to
more than two hours, it was Geronimo’s sparkling presence that kept the crowd glued to their seats.
The concert, which was scripted on the theme of Geronimo’s three wishes (concerning family, freedom and love) being granted by a wicked stepmother (portrayed by Santos) had many highlights – the most outstanding of which was Bamboo and Geronimo in a duet of the Goo Goo Dolls’ “Iris.” As the song peaked, Geronimo was seen headbanging, her body quivering as she engaged Bamboo in a cathartic display of self-expression.
That night, Geronimo proved she is not just a pop star, but an idol whose talent is still evolving.
