As Princess and I reaches its fourth month, Enrique Gil shares how it feels to have the show reach high ratings and has even managed to inch even closer to the top spot claimed by Walang Hanggan. “Solid as in dati sabi namin sana mapantayan namin kasi medyo relaxed yung show namin eh. Parang nasabi nag-number one nung isang day. Kasi sa amin dati sobrang relaxed ng story namin, yung wala masyadong pasabog pero tumataas ang rating. Wow solid so sana dumating na yung point na, gaya ngayon lumalabas na yung mga secrets kaya mas yung mga tao umaabang na, kasi ngayon grabe ang gaganda ng mga pasabog nila, grabe.”
The Fil-Spanish heartthrob, who is set to play a troubled young man in the upcoming psych-horror movie Amorosa: The Revenge says he has learned a lot from being part of the successful primetime series. “As an actor siyempre you learn a lot. Kung start mo hanggang ngayon wala ka pang natutunan dapat matakot ka kasi alam mong hindi mo talaga kursunada kung paano ang trabaho mo. You learn it by process,” he admits. The 22-year-old actor also says he has noticed that everyone in the Princess and I cast has been learning and improving from working with each other, including his on-screen rival Daniel Padilla. “Si Daniel first primetime show niya ito so he’s going to learn a lot talaga. He’s so much better now than nun nag-start siya. Sobrang nag-iba na rin siya and you only learn by experience and habang tumatagal you get to learn more. Yun, that’s how it works kasi.” Enrique adds he is also not bothered by the growing popularity of Daniel’s loveteam with Kathryn Bernardo. “Mabuti naman yun, bagay naman sila. Okay naman sa amin yun. depende naman sa tao yun so yung iba nagsabi mas bagay sila so depende naman sa flavor niyo eh.”
Enrique admits he has also gotten more comfortable doing scenes with his on-screen mother, Gretchen Barretto, whom he found intimidating before. “Oo dati yun nung nasa Bhutan pa kami. Siyempre imagine niyo ito, first time namin magka-eksena tapos sa ibang bansa pa, tapos ibang lenguwahe pa. Sobrang kinakabahan. Ngayon hindi na,” he shares. After doing Amorosa: The Revenge, the talented actor is also going to be busy preparing for a still untitled horror film project with Julia Montes. He says he plans to invite her and Kathryn Bernardo to watch Amorosa when it comes out at the end of the month. “Yeah for sure, iinvite ko sila kung papayag sila at hindi sila matatakot. Okay lang siyempre.”
