As Bona, her first theatrical production with PETA, starts its limited run on August 24, Friday, Eugene Domigo admitted she is more than ready to showcase her talent by performing live for the first time after entering show business. The veteran comedienne shows off her theatrical roots in this remake of the 1980 Nora Aunor movie. Eugene admits that after promoting Kimmy Dora and The Temple of Kiyeme, she had her schedule blocked off so she could fully focus on rehearsals for the play.
In Bona, Eugene plays the title role of a spinster call center agent who becomes obsessed on supporting an talent show contestant named Gino (played by Edgar Allan Guzman).
One of the most anticipated scenes that Eugene’s fans can’t wait to watch is a controversial scene which involves a lot of kissing. The 41-year-old actress shared why she is confident in executing the love scene in front of a live audience and believes that it is a crucial part of the story. “Confident ako makipag-kissing scene. Ang bango ng hininga ko noh (laughs). Para sa akin, dapat talaga may kissing scene. Para sa isang taga-hanga na itinaya lahat, sigurado hindi lang naging taga-hanga yan,” she explained.
Eugene said that there was never any nervousness when it came to doing scenes with Edgar Allan. “Professional nga. After nung scene, ako pa nga nagsabi sa kanya na, ‘Blackout na ha,’ Tapos sabi niya, ‘Sorry hindi ko nakita patay na pala ang ilaw, halik pa rin ako ng halik.’ Kasi nakatalikod siya. Sabi ko, ‘Naku okay lang yun noh (laughs),’ she joked.
As a co-actor, Eugene said she is proud of Edgar Allan’s work ethic. “Masipag siya and nakikita ko kay Edgar Allan na desidido siya, gusto niyang may marating siya dito sa business na ito, not only para magkaroon siya ng mas maunlad na buhay kundi bilang artista, gusto niya may marating siya,” she said.
As a theater performer even during her college days, Eugene said she feels a responsibility towards uplifting the industry and making the theater available to a wider range of audiences. “Yun talaga ang gusto ko makita and I visualize na gusto ko maraming pipila, hindi dahil required manuod ng play ng mga estudyante kun ‘di dahil they want to experience theater and isa sa mga makakapag-attract diyan is yung aminin na natin ‘di ba pag merong artista na sinusundan nila sa TV na makikita nila ng live performing in front of them na dire-diretso. I encourage them to please experience theater,” she said.
The Bona star said that after the play’s one-month run, she plans to go on an extended vacation in Europe in October. “Wala akong film sa Metro Manila Film festival this year. Hindi pa ako nakakapunta sa London, parang gusto ko makapunta dun. Medyo tatagalan ko kasi masyado akong masaya,” she admitted.
