Maxene Magalona Doesn't Play Hard To Get

Young TV host-actress Maxene Magalona seems very practical when it comes to entering into a relationship - she believes there's no point in long courtship if she's already fallen in love with her suitor.

"'Pag gusto ko, gusto ko," Maxene quipped when asked if she's the type who would make her suitor suffer a long courtship.

"Wala ng mga...'di ko pahihirapan kasi ang point ko 'pag click kami 'di na ako magpapaligoy-ligoy pa. If ever magkaroon ako ng bagong boyfriend at mamahalin ko, bakit ko pa siya pahihirapan?" she explained during the gala night of "Protégé: The Battle for the Big Artista Break."

Maxene is the show's web jock for the daily updates in Protégé Webisodes that can be seen on www.gmanetwork.com/protege.

Enjoying her single blessedness

"Ngayon lang ako naging single nang ganito katagal," observed, clearly enjoying her current state.

"It's been six months already that I have been single and it's the longest in my whole life. Lagi akong may boyfriend so ngayon ay nag-e-enjoy ako with my time alone."

But she does find time to go out.

"May mga dating-dating," she said, laughing. "I'm now going out, meeting people. May mga ka-text din ako. Ang sarap ng feeling na kinikilig."

Maxene said she and her non-showbiz boyfriend broke up several months ago.

"I really enjoy hanging out. Marami akong guy-friends and if a guy and a girl hang out it doesn't automatically mean there's romance na kaagad," she explained.

She believes that dating is good "as long as wala naman akong inaapakan and I'm not committed to anyone ay okay lang."

Different hosting

Hosting Protégé's webisodes is something new for Maxene.

"Ipinapakita namin 'yung hindi ipinapakita sa TV, 'yung behind-the-scenes, kung ano ang nangyayari backstage," she said.

Being a light chore, Maxene gets to enjoy her stint. "Parang patawa lang. It's very casual, very candid. Kung ano ako sa totoong buhay ay 'yun ang makikita mon dito. Hindi siya formal hosting."

Advice

Being the aspirants' ate of sorts, Maxene tells the 20 finalists to take their craft seriously.

"Sinasabi ko sa kanila na hindi madaling mag-artista. Kumbaga, nagbibigay ako ng advice sa kanila as a celebrity kung paano maging artista.

"Ang gusto lang naming iparating sa mga tao ay ang pag-aartista ay hindi lamang about fame. It's also about craft, that you have to be passionate about it. kasi kung puro pagpapa-cute lang at gusto mo lang sumikat, kung 'yan ang habol mo ay walang mangyayari sa 'yo. Dapat mahalin mo kung nao 'yung ginagawa mo," she explained at length.

Potential

Among the 20 finalists, Maxene somehow feels some of them have the potential to make it in showbiz.

"May isang cutie pie doon," she said. "He's a guy, cute siya, basta matangkad siya. He's really tall and he has appeal. 'Yung youngest girl cute din siya. I think all of them have potential."

While inside the Protégé house, "they will get to know how to act, dance, sing, talagang whole packaging ng isang artista...dapat plakadong-plakado."

Maxene feels that the search is a big help for those wanting to enter show business.

"Oo naman kasi ako pinalad lang because I was born to a showbiz family and I'm blessed of the Magalona name. But for other hopefuls, other aspirants ay ito 'yung isa sa venues na puwede nilang tahakin para ma-reach nila 'yung dreams nila."

She also lauds the determination of the young wannabes.

"Makikita mo sa kanila na all of them want to win, hindi 'yung ano lang, basta wala lang. that's good, that's a good thing to see. Makikita mo na willing silang gawin lahat maging artista lang so matira ang matibay."
