Gerald Anderson on much-speculated romance with Sarah Geronimo

Gerald Anderson may have been elusive about the real score between him and Sarah Geronimo for the past few weeks. But he opened up about how he feels knowing that his closeness with the singer-actress remains to be a subject of much speculation. Amidst reports that they are just keeping their relationship a secret, Gerald asked for the public’s understanding if he refuses to give full details about what’s really going on between them off cam.

“Alam niyo, maraming lumabas ‘di ba? Kung ano man narinig niyo, nabasa niyo, napanood sa TV, nasa inyo kung anong isipin niyo kung anong totoo dun, kung ano ang hindi totoo. Sa ngayon po, lagyan na lang natin ng respeto, ng privacy yung pamilya niya, si Sarah, [at] sana ako din. Kasi ang pinaguusapan natin is something very personal. At sa amin na lang ho yun. Basta at the end of the day, friends kami. Yes, it’s something that we’ve decided on. Yun. Basta hanggang dun na lang. Respeto at privacy na lang,” he stated in an interview with Push.com.ph and Cinema News at the 25th anniversary of Cebuana Lhuillier at the Smart Araneta Coliseum, Tuesday, August 28.

He admitted, however, that there are difficulties that he might encounter. But like what he previously mentioned to Push.com.ph, he considers Sarah as his first female friend and it’s the reason why he wants to maintain their closeness. “Oo naman po. Yun na yun e. And I’m happy kung anong meron kami. At kung ano yung naging ano naman… Siyempre, hindi rin ako magsisinungaling. Lahat naman tayo dadaan din sa hirap at sa mga pagsubok. Yun na lang. Meron para sa pamilya, para sa friends, para sa audience, meron para sa amin lang.”

Clearly, Gerald doesn’t want Sarah’s family to be dragged into malicious speculations about why he supposedly stopped courting her. Asked if he has any ill will to anyone because of what happened, he simply replied, “I guess nasa inyo na yun kung anong gusto niyong isipin sa mga narinig niyo, sa mga nabasa niyo, napanood niyo. What you see is what you get. [Naiintindihan ko] at nirerespeto ko [lahat ng nangyari].”

Fortunately, the two of them refused to be affected by the intrigues and other people’s expectations that could have strained their friendship. “Ganon po, exactly, kaya huwag natin palikihin. Okay na yun. I very much want it to stay that way, as much as possible, yun na.”

It certainly helped that he was able to get some rest and relaxation now that he’s in between projects. He recently went on a short trip to Davao with his friends for the Kadayawan Festival. “Oo, may pictures actually sa YouTube. Nilabas ng mga kasama ko. Yeah, konting pamasyal lang. Like I said, lahat naman tayo dumadaan sa mga pagsubok at challenges sa buhay. And we all need to rest and re-energize, so yun. Nagshow din ako for Kadayawan Festival.”

Gerald further shared that his dad is also very supportive of him when he went to Egypt a few weeks ago. “Okay naman. Masaya. Okay naman yung naging bakasyon namin. Three days lang kami. Nakapagbonding kami. Hindi kami nakatawid sa Israel kasi medyo magulo and yung daddy ko, nagtatrabaho sa militar dun.”

In the meantime, Gerald said that he doesn’t mind flying solo for the upcoming Star Magic ball. “I’m going alone. Pero hindi naman ibig sabihin na magisa lang ako hindi na magiging masaya yung gabi. Excited ako, it’s a Star Magic event and buong Star Magic family nandun.”
