Bea Binene unaffected over issue with DJ, lawyer

Contrary to reports, GMA Artist Center (GMAAC) said Bea Binene and her family have resolved their issue with Dan Christian Villanueva, a.k.a. DJ Papa Dan of Barangay LS 97.1, GMA’s FM radio station.

“The case between Bea Binene and Papa Dan is closed now. Papa Dan already said sorry to the Binene family… (There is) no need to pursue any legal means,” Simon Ferrer, GMA Artist Center Assistant Vice President, said in a press conference  on Wednesday, September 28.

A national broadsheet reported that lawyer Ferdinand Topacio filed a child abuse case against Villanueva at the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group last September 3. It indicated that Villanueva moved to a house in front of the Binenes’ after months of frequent phone calls and visits. The DJ also reportedly threatened to release the alleged sensitive photos of Bea.

But according to Flordeliza Vargas, Bea’s legal counsel and Lynn Delfin, GMA Vice President for Legal Affairs, Topacio was not authorized to file the complaint as he is not representing Bea legally.

“There was really no client and lawyer relationship between Bea and Atty. Topacio,” Ferrer said.

Delfin added that GMA-7 is  studying if they’ll file a case against Topacio “subject also to the review of the statements that he has been giving to other reporters.”

Clarification

The GMA Artist Center executive explained that the Binenes’ problem with Villanueva started when the DJ overstayed at the young star's family guest house.

Villanueva, Ferrer said, acted as program host for GMA-7 mall shows. Binene, one of the network’s prime stars, is usually part of the mall activities.

“Naging magkaibigan talaga yung dalawa. But it came to a point when after ng taping ni Bea for soap, pagkauwi nila andun si Papa Dan. And it was very late na. So sabi ni Papa Dan, ‘Is it okay if I stay sa guest house ninyo, total hiwalay naman siya sa bahay ninyo so I don’t think it will be any issue’,” he narrated.

Ferrer further said, “So sabi nila, sige. Dahil kaibigan naman siya ng pamilya… okay lang sa kanila na mag-stay siya sa guest house.”

But Villanueva's supposed short stay extended for seven months. He even changed the guest house's locks to avoid being evicted, said the network executive. This was when Bea’s family decided to ask for help.

A few days after the Binenes informed GMAAC about their problem, GMA-7 intervened. The disc jockey left the guest house on August 31.

A case of misunderstanding?

Ferrer stressed, “Contrary to what was published, Dan and Bea never had a relationship, which was of course confirmed by both parties.”

“And contrary to what was published as well, no sensitive photos or videos of Papa Dan and Bea are actually available,” he added.

Since both the young star and DJ are Kapuso talents, what will be the network's next course of action following the controversy?

“We’ll have to check. What happened between Bea and Papa Dan was on a personal level. We’ll check din how it’s affecting his work. Definitely we will be checking that out on a professional point of view,” Ferrer said.

How Bea's coping

Despite the intrigues, the young Kapuso actress is unfazed.

“Bea is fine. Kasi bata nga, e. Siguro hindi niya naiintindihan yung mga nangyayari around her. If you talk to her, natutuwa siya kasi yung album niya gold na raw, she’s proud of it. Tapos yung soap niya, malapit na raw lumabas. So yun yung mga iniisip niya,” Ferrer said.

He added, “She’s also very professional when it comes to work in GMA, na parang gusto niya lagi siyang may ginagawa sa trabaho, gusto niya laging puno yung schedule niya. So yun yung focus ni Bea.”

“She’s actually fine, kasi bata pa e. Bata pa talaga.”
