Jericho Rosales tumulong sa mga taga Baler na magkaroon ng malinis na tubig

For someone who loves to do water sports, actor Jericho Rosales revealed that among his advocacies is to provide clean drinking water to communities that do not enjoy such a basic necessity.

Speaking to Pochoy Labog of “Ako Ang Simula,” Rosales said his surfing group Coast Thru Life just could not believe it when they learned that a barangay in Baler, Aurora does not have a source of clean water.

Rosales’ group surfs in Baler, which is one of the most popular activities in the area.

“Nakaka-frustrate, may tubig pero wala kang mainom. Walang dapat na mamatay sa uhaw,” he said.

Rosales said he knows how it feels because he did not grow up in a well-off family.

“Ako galing din ako sa hirap eh. Marami rin akong kaibigan na galing sa hirap. Naranasan din namin 'yung talagang sobrang hirap na buhay. Hindi ko matiis na daanan mo lang 'yung mga bata tapos wala [silang mainom],” he said.

Rosales said this led his group to tie up with Clean Drinking Water Philippines, which provides water purifiers to communities that do not have a source of clean drinking water.

According to Carla Rowland of the Clean Drinking Water Philippines, the group's members get a different kind of joy when they help those in the community where they surf.

“Catching waves and getting to surf and doing all that’s fun. But when you add a cultural aspect to it where you’re really making an impact, I think that just makes it more fulfilling and much more joyful,” she said.

So far, Coast Thru Life and Clean Drinking Water Philippines has already distributed water filters to three Baler communities.

They are set to give out more this coming November.
