Toni Gonzaga’s movie with Vice Ganda and Luis Manzano, This Guy’s In Love With You, Mare by Star Cinema, will be opening in cinemas by October 10 but the actress-host said that she and the rest of the cast feel that it’s been a long time coming. “Ang tagal nga eh,” began Toni. “Tagal na tagal nga kami sa October 10. Ever since nag-last shooting day kami sabi namin kelan ba bago ang October 10? Kasi gusto na naming panoorin. Lahat kasi (ng ginawa ko before) ito ‘yung pelikulang nae-excite akong ipalabas.”

Vice’s comedy film Praybeyt Benjamin (2011), remains the top-grossing movie of all time in local cinema, and has set the standard for box-office success. Inevitably, there have been speculations if This Guy’s In Love With You, Mare, will be able to match if not top his previous movie. “Nung nangyari ‘yung Praybeyt Benjamin na-pressure na ako non. Sabi ko nakakatakot naman kami ang susunod, ang hirap namang sundan ‘yan,” Toni recalled.

When they started filming, Toni’s fear gradually diminished and she has resolved not to give in to the pressure of coming up with a movie that could match Praybeyt Benjamin. “Kinalimutan ko na ‘yung pressure, ibinigay ko na lang sa kanilang lahat. Ayoko nang ma-pressure. Ibigay ko na lang ang best ko dito. Kung ano na lang ang desisyon nila. More than pressured siguro mas kampante ako at excited ako dahil alam kong maganda itong materyal na mapapanood n’yo kasi buo ‘yung storya, buo ‘yung kwento, may kinahinatnan ang bawat characters namin,” she related.

In 2010, Toni’s blockbuster hit movie with John Lloyd Cruz, My Amnesia Girl, made her a strong contender for the Box Office Queen title for that year. However, she lost the title to Ai-Ai de las Alas for her movie Ang Tanging Ina Mo (Last Na ‘To!) and was awarded Princess of Philippine Movies for that year instead.

Many are now thinking that the elusive Box Office Queen title might finally be hers with the blockbuster potential of her new comedy movie. Toni said that she is not pressuring herself to get the said title. “Nung time na ‘yon (2010) hindi rin ako nag-expect kasi when you expect too much, you get hurt so much. And nung nangyari ‘yung My Amnesia Girl lalo kong napatunayan na pinaka-bonus mo na at pinaka-reward mo na maibibigay mo sa sarili mo ay nagustuhan ng mga tao ang pelikula at nanood sila ng pelikula,” she justified. “Siguro ‘yung award, of course ang sarap ng pakiramdam na makatanggap no’n. And I received two Guillermo (Mendoza) na Princess of Philippine Movie (awards for the movies) You Are The One at My Amnesia Girl.

“Sabi ko siguro darating ‘yung time na magiging (Box Office) Queen din ako in due time. Pero dahil sa may dalawang Princess of Philippine Movies ako, okay na ako don. Kung ‘yun muna ang akin, ‘yun na muna. Pero kung magiging queen na ako eventually, siguro in time ‘yon. Di naman ako magmamadali.”
