During the grand press con for Star Magic’s 20th anniversary celebration, Maja Salvador proudly announced that Thelma will be part of the Third New York International Film Festival in August. A movie based on a Filipino runner’s struggles in life, Thelma has also joined other prestigious screenings to date, including the 22nd Cinequest Film Festival, 36th Cleveland International Film Festival, and the 31st Hawaii International Festivals.
As the lead star of Thelma, Maja felt privileged that she is able to bring national pride to Pinoys everywhere. Kaya sobrang sarap na napabilang sa mga pelikulang nakilala internationally,” she said in an interview.
In the said film, Maja showcased her flair for drama in a deglamorized role that required her to go through rigid marathon training. It was graded A by the Cinema Evaluation Board not only because of its inspiring theme but more so with its “well-crafted” direction, screenplay, and acting. It’s no big surprise then that it got several major nominations in local award-giving bodies such as Star Awards and Golden Screen Awards.
Asked how she feels to be nominated in the Best Actress category, Maja said that it inspires her to portray more dramatic roles in the future.
Maja also gave credit to Star Magic for honing her talent in acting. She revealed that the key in discovering a star’s potential is through constant training.
