A production mishap didn’t stop Sarah Geronimo from giving an impressive show before thousands of fans during the repeat of her birthday concert “24/SG” on Saturday, July 21 at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum.
While performing “And I’m Telling You I’m Not Going,” Sarah accidentally missed a step on the stairs and tripped. Pyrotechnic special effects on stage almost hit her face.
But she continued singing and – true to the saying 'the show must go on' -- finished her number without skipping a beat. The bubbly singer even joked and described her performance as "buwis-buhay."
The day after, on “The Buzz,” Sarah described the accident, “May na-skip ako na step sa hagdan. May pasa ng konti pero okay lang. Hindi ko naapakan yung isang step, dumiretso ako. Pero okay lang iyon, the show must go on. Hayaan na natin at least enjoy tayo and andito silang lahat para magbigay ng support, so okay na iyon.”
The Pop Princess expressed her thanks for another birthday.
“Thank you Lord, makakapag-celebrate pa ako ng 24th birthday ko! Sana naman napansin iyon ni fairy gaymother (Jon Santos, who plays her fairy in the concert), buwis-buhay iyon ah,” she joked shortly after her performance.
She sang and danced to the hits of Beyonce, Rihanna and Nicki Minaj then shifted to classic mode with the songs of Basil Valdez and The Company.

Absent Gerald
Her suitor, Gerald Anderson, who attended the first night of the concert, was absent in the repeat show. Sarah made up for this by performing “It Might Be You,” while photo slides of them together flashed on the monitor. The fans went wild.
Sarah said her wishes for her birthday are for her family, freedom and love.
“Freedom is nothing else but a chance to be better. Iyon ang wish ko para maging mas mahusay ako na performer, mabuting anak. Magiging mabuting anak muna, kapatid, bago muna maging mabuting girlfriend, kung gusto ng Diyos na magkaroon ako ng boyfriend or mapapangasawa,” Sarah announced to deafening screams.
Looking forward
She thanked fans for allowing her to look forward to 2013, when she’ll be marking her tenth year in the business.
“Sa loob ng sampung taon, tinulungan ninyo ako maabot ang mga pangarap ko from “Star for a Night.” I will be forever grateful to the Lord and to all of you for making my dreams come true,” Sarah said in her parting shot.
Despite heavy rains, Sarah’s supporters -- the Popsters, Ashrald and Ashlloyd – packed the Big Dome. Sarah’s showbiz friends, Gary Valenciano (who came with wife Angeli Pangilinan-Valenciano and son Paolo Valenciano), Sam Milby, Maja Salvador, Mark Bautista, Gwen Ruais, Joanne Quintas and ABS-CBN executive Cory Vidanes also showed their support with their presence.
