After a more than a year’s absence, Regine Velasquez makes her television comeback via the upcoming GMA-7 Sunday talk show “HOT TV.” This marks her first full-time work after she went on a hiatus when she got pregnant April of last year.
For the singer-actress, returning to the showbiz grind isn’t the difficult part of her comeback. It’s the fact that she has to juggle her showbiz career and being a mother to Nate, her son by Ogie Alcasid.
“Mas nanibago ako na, ‘Hey, I’m working.’ Parang ganun. Hindi naman ako sa nahirapan pero, syempre, iba na ngayon kasi nanay na ako,” Regine said in an interview with Hot Pinoy Showbiz during the opening of Ogie’s Ryu Ramen and Curry restaurant in Tomas Morato, Quezon City on Sunday, July 22.
Since she was used to being with Nate all the time during her hiatus, Regine found being away from her child a challenge.
“Alam mo yung maya’t maya na yung isip mo nasa bahay. Ano kaya ginagawa ng anak ko? Kasi yung asawa ko madali kong tawagan. ‘O, kumain ka na ba?’ Yung ganun. Yung anak ko, tatawagan ko yung yaya niya. Ikukwento lang sa akin,” Regine narrated.
“Saka nasa age si Nate na may ginagawa siyang bago. Parang namimiss ko lang yun, kung ano man yun. Pero sa trabaho, sanay na rin ako.”
Taking it easy
Regine is sure she’ll get used to her new schedule. “But right now, I’m taking it easy,” she added.
Besides her upcoming talk show, Regine is o shooting a film with Aga Muhlach under Viva Films titled “Of All The Things.”
“Nag-continue lang kami. Nag-resume lang ng shooting after three years,” she said of her movie. “Actually, mga six days na lang siguro kami.”
So how does she balance showbiz work and mother duties?
“Sunday lang ako magwo-work. I have ‘Party Pilipinas’ and ‘HOT TV.’ So Sunday lang ako busy,” Regine said. The Kapuso star added that with her upcoming movie, she made sure she’s at work only every other day.
She also talked to Ogie about their schedule if ever more work comes their way.
“Pinag-uusapan namin ng asawa ko na if ever mag-soap (opera), one of us should stay at home. Hindi kami dapat sabay mag-soap. Isa-isa lang, kasi otherwise mahirap for the baby. Kawawa naman,” Regine said.
Is a soap opera for Regine in the works? Her last primetime soap was “I Heart You Pare,” which she had to give up when she got pregnant. .
“I’m hoping na hindi na muna ako i-offer this year,” she said. “Maka-one year old muna si Nate.”

She added, “Kaming mag-asawa, mahilig kaming mag-date, kumain sa labas. Na kahit busy siya, he’d find time to do that. Silang dalawa ni Nate, laro-laro lang nila. Minsan, maga-allot siya ng isang buong araw, magkasama sila. Ganun lang.”
Even baby Nate is in on his parents’ schedules.
“Saka nakakatuwa yung anak ko. Like nung isang araw, inintay niya yung tatay niya. Gising siya hanggang makauwi yung tatay niya, mga 12:30 (a.m.). He was awake. Parang he slept, tapos gumising, tapos nag-play with his dad, then he went to sleep,” she said.
