Bea Alonzo proudly told the press on Wednesday that her boyfriend Zanjoe Marudo had seen “The Mistress”, her latest and most daring movie yet, and he loved it.
“Yeah, nanood na siya kahapon. Nagyaya ang mga friends namin,” she revealed during a victory lunch held by Star Cinema to celebrate the movie’s box-office success.
Bea was reluctant to join the viewing party.
The actress engages in revealing love scenes in the movie not just with her perennial leading man John Lloyd Cruz but also veteran actor Ronaldo Valdez. Naturally, she felt awkward seeing them on the big screen while sitting next to Zanjoe.
She need not have worried. The movie made him so proud of her.
“The Mistress” is a certified critical and box-office success. Bea didn’t expect it to perform as well as it had done, exceeding the P140-million mark after only five days in the theaters.
At the victory lunch where she faced the media alongside director Olive Lamasan and scriptwriter Vanessa Valdez – John Lloyd had a previous appoitment – Bea was flattered by reporters’ comparison of their loveteam to that of Vilma Santos and Christopher de Leon.
Like Vilma and Christopher, who had a string of box-office hits throughout the ’80s, fans have embraced the Bea-John Lloyd tandem despite their union being strictly for the cameras.
Bea thinks she and John Lloyd, who is currently datiing Angelica Panganiban, have a long way to go to deserve the comparison.
“Mukhang mahirap pang masundan ang nagawa na nina Ate Vi and Kuya Boyet. Marami pa kaming bigas na kailangang kainin. Pero natutuwa kami sa komento. Kasi nga, very much at home na kami ni Lloydie sa pagsalang sa mga roles na ibinibigay sa amin sa ngayon. Mas mature. Mas bagay na talaga sa pagsasama namin,” she said.
While some critics have already marked her and John Lloyd as contenders for acting awards next year courtesy of their performances in “The Mistress”, Bea would rather not get her hopes up this early.
“Hindi ko muna ini-expect ang award. Kasi marami pang movies na lalabas,” she said.
Not only that. They could also reclaim their titles as box-office king and queen.
“Sila na lang po ang magsasabi. Kung umabot kami sa ganoon, magandang blessing. Magandang regalo para sa amin ni Lloydie,” she said.
Fans need not wait for her next movie with John Lloyd. They will soon reunite on television in “A Beautiful Affair”, a new soap shot in Vienna and Salzburg in Austria.
She and John Lloyd will be back on television with their new soap, “A Beautiful Affair” which they shot in Vienna and Salzburg, Austria. What can their fans expect this time?
