The actress believes that their love team's success is due to their strictly platonic relationship.
The Bea Alonzo-John Lloyd Cruz tandem is definitely one of the strongest love teams in showbiz, and the two have a string of box-office hits to prove their worth, with the latest being The Mistress. However, Bea owes the success of their ten-year onscreen romance to the fact that she and John Lloyd never became a real-life item.
“Oo malaking advantage kasi hindi naman natin alam kung baka nga sa sampung taon baka kung nagkatuluyan man kami, baka two years pa lang or one year wala na and possible din na kung sakaling nangyari yun, ayaw na namin makatrabaho ang isa’t isa kasi it would be awkward,” Bea was quoted as saying in an article by Push.com.ph. “So major blessing talaga yung hindi naging kami (Yes, it’s a big advantage because, maybe if we fell for each other within the ten years [we’ve been working together], we probably would've lasted for only two years or a year. It’s also possible that if it did happen, we wouldn’t want to work with each other because it would be awkward. So it’s really a major blessing that we never became an item.).”
Bea also shared that her working experience with John Lloyd has considerably improved through the years. "I always say na ito na yung best working relationship namin ni John Lloyd kasi nag-uusap kami lagi tungkol sa trabaho, yung nagbibiruan kami," she said. “Parang nag-mature na rin kami emotionally, na we can handle anything (I would always say that this is the best working relationship I’ve had with John Lloyd because we always talk about work, [and] we joke around. It’s like we both matured emotionally, that we can handle anything.).”
So successful is their tandem, that even Bea’s boyfriend Zanjoe Marudo has confessed to being their fan. Zanjoe also said in an earlier interview that he trusts his girlfriend completely.
“Sabi ni Z (Zanjoe’s nickname), Bea-John Lloyd fan daw siya. Umiyak nga siya dati sa One More Chance eh,” she shared. “Nakakatuwa naman kasi na-fi-feel ko yung suporta niya para sa amin. So mas madali siya for me kasi naiintindihan niya and parang nakakatuwang isipin na proud siya sa iyo (Z told me that he’s a Bea-John Lloyd fan. He even cried when he saw One More Chance. It makes me happy that I can feel his support for us. So it’s easier for me because he understands and it’s nice to think that he’s proud of you.).”
