Toni Gonzaga, Afraid Kaya sa Over Exposure

Although she’s seen on television every day, actress-host Toni Gonzaga said she still makes time for her family. “Siyempre hindi mawawala yun. Meron kami talagang panahon na mag-di-dinner kami, aalis kaming pamilya. Kasi masarap kausap yung pamilya mo eh kasi sila yung talaga totoo sa ’yo eh. Sasabihin nila kung medyo panget ka dun sa ganitong area ng buhay mo, yung ginawa mo or yung project mo. Mas totoo kasi pag pamilya mo ang kausap mo,” she admitted.

Toni said that when she is at home, her family does not give her the “star” treatment and she is treated just like anybody else in the household. “Diyan naman malaking tulong ang pamilya ko, malaking tulong ang nanay at tatay ko at saka yung kapatid ko, they keep me grounded. Pag umuuwi ako sa bahay hindi ako artista, anak ako, kapatid ako, kamag-anak ako ng mga relatives ko. Walang special treatment so meron na akong hiwalay na buhay sa industriya at meron akong personal na buhay na alam kong yun ang totoo. Kasi itong nangyayari lahat, trabaho ito para sa akin and I get to enjoy it. So pag-uwi ko hiwalay na yun,” she shared.

The 28 year-old actress, who is part of Wansapanataym’s month-long special every Saturday, has said she has never been afraid of overexposure and she just tries to make sure there is a balance in all her priorities in life. Toni said she takes her hosting duties on The Buzz just as seriously as her segments on Pinoy Big Brother on weekdays. “I guess it’s a matter of sticking to your principles and what you believe in, kung ano yung paninindigan, yun lang ang gagawin mo. Kasi kung ano lang naman yung sinasabi ko at kung ano man yung opinion ko sa The Buzz, yun ang sarili kong perception sa mga bagay-bagay. Base naman sa mga pinaniniwalaan ko, hindi naman magbabago yun just because we’re discussing a certain controversy or topic,” she said.

Toni said she is also thankful she was able to experience being in a teleserye when she did Kokey@Ako with Vhong Navarro in 2010. “It’s tiring talaga. It takes so much of your time, but kasi parang if you star in a teleserye, it helps you to become a household name. Parang mas na-e-engage sa ‘yo ang audience kapag nag-te-teleserye ka because Filipinos are really into teleseryes. Pero it didn’t really work that way for me. I did so many things before ako talaga ako mapansin so iba iba siguro. I guess depende yan sa career strategy ng mga manager,” she explained.

Although she has very little time left for her own leisure, Toni said she would rather use it to sleep longer. “Meron namang time pero hindi rin naman masyado because PBB is everyday and weekends din is hectic for me so I guess more time to sleep lang gusto ko. After Happy Yipee Yehey, nagkaroon lang ng mas mahabang oras, ngayon puwede ka na gumising ng alas-dose, medyo gigising ng late kasi before nung may noontime medyo maaga-aga ang gising. A little added time lang sa pagtulog pero more time I guess. It’s all just a matter of balance. Aayusin mo lang ang schedule mo, hindi ko na nabalikan yung ballroom class at saka yung yoga ko at saka yung iba kong mga klase. But definitely after PBB ibabalik ko,” she said.
