It’s been quite a while since Ruffa Gutierrez celebrated her birthday with the usual showbiz glam-and-glitz — you know, a party with her well-wishers dressed to the nines.
Last Saturday, June 16, a week in advance, Ruffa marked her birthday (June 24) still in starry style but this time with a twist: Together with her daughters Lorin and Venice, brother Tonton Gutierrez and close friends (Cristalle Belo Henares, Sharmaine Arnaiz, Miriam Quiambao, Jackie Forster, Assunta de Rossi, Kiray and Bebe Gandanghari), Ruffa broke ground for five houses at the Habitat For Humanity project in Payatas, Quezon City.
“I want to thank the residents of Payatas,” said Ruffa (who put up her own Roof-A-Child project back in 1993 when she finished Second Princess in the Miss World contest). “They were cooperative.”
It’s payback time, added Ruffa who didn’t mind getting soaked with sweat under the sun.
At her age (secret…daw!), Ruffa said that she has stopped making a birthday wish…too old for that. But she does hope that she’ll finally meet Mr. Right.
“Someone who will handle me with care,” she smiled.
