In the upcoming horror film Amorosa: The Revenge, Angel Aquino plays the title role of Rosa, a mother torn by a decision from the past and another decision she has to make in the present. “Throughout her life as a mother, Rosa carries with her this guilt. Yung isang anak niya ay mabubulag dahil sa genes niya. So si Amiel mabubulag siya pagtanda na niya. So dala-dala ko yun. Hino-haunt si Rosa nitong multo na ito to make another decision, mamimili ka ulit. Si Rosa isang ina na mahal na mahal niya ang kanyang mga anak pero she had to make a decision and dun sa decision na yun, nagbago ang takbo ng buhay sila ng mga anak niya. Basically, yun lang yung character ni Amorosa, she loves her two sons very much but she had to make that very, very important decision that changed their lives,” she said during the Amorosa presscon held last August 15 at the White House restaurant in Quezon City.
After playing various supporting roles through the years, Angel admitted she is looking forward to her first starring role in a movie. “Tingnan natin, isa pa lang ito. Tingnan pa natin kung madagdagan. Siguro if it works then madadagdagan. Pero ngayon mas hindi yun yung iniisip ko bilang I’ve been here in this industry for so long at hindi na ako umaasa na magiging bida pa ako. Para sa akin, I’m very comfortable supporting the bigger actors and I don’t mind doing that kasi para sa akin it’s less pressure on me and I’m comfortable doing that. Pero ngayon na nabigay sa akin itong task na ito, sana naman nagampanan ko rin ng maayos,” she said.
The pretty model-actress said she is thankful for every challenging project that comes her way. “Kasi para sa akin, mas yung satisfaction ng gagawin ko ang important. Para sa akin kasi, every role is important so hindi ako namimili na tipong ay masyadong maliit, mas gusto ko lang ng mas challenging na role,” she added.
Angel said her role in Amorosa: The Revenge is one she really took to heart. “Ako bilang si Rosa, sobra akong naniniwala unang-una dahil kasi matatakutin talaga ako. So kung sinasabi sa akin ni direk na ganyan ang mangyayari tapos sa likod mo may ganyan, sinsabi pa lang niya natatakot na ako (laughs). Kaya yung nakikita niyong mga screen shots ko, totoo kasi ganun ako kabilis magulat at matakot. At bilang si Rosa naman, being the character of the mother, sobra lapit siya sa puso ko kasi dalawa ri yung anak ko, at may mga chances na kailangan ko rin mamili at kailangan ko mag-desisyon at saka may sakit kasi yung isa anak. Ganun din ako, yung isa kong anak may sakit din so talagang sobrang lapit sa puso ko yung role ni Rosa,” she admitted.
Currently single, Angel said she has decided to just focus on her career after ending a four-month relationship with a non-showbiz guy earlier this year. “Ngayon wala. Wala na ulit (laughs). Nasundan for awhile pero hindi siya masyado nagtagal. Yung una apat na taon tapos sumunod apat na buwan yata. Medyo matagal lang yung ligawan. Nag-start siya nung January, nag-end siya nung April. Eh kasi siguro hindi nagka-tugma yung ugali, yung mga gusto namin sa buhay, ganun. At saka inisip ko rin ayoko na talaga sa bata. Tama na yan. Tama na. Medyo mas bata din kasi siya sa akin,” she admitted.
The Amorosa: The Revenge star said she does not consciously think about dating younger men even though her longtime boyfriend of four years, actor Lui Villaruz was five years younger while her most recent relationship was with a businessman three years her junior. “Hindi ko naman naisip yun. Ngayon naisip ko huwag na muna yung mga bata. Actually huwag na muna period. Saka na lang ulit. After especially na may ganito tapos meron pang Apoy sa Dagat, mas okay na muna yung ganito,” she shared.
After playing strong characters in Maria la Del Barrio and Magkaribal, Angel shared that she will play another dominant character in the upcoming Piolo Pascual-Angela Panganiban drama series, Apoy sa Dagat. “Ako yung magiging tinik sa buhay ni Angelica. Kontrabida ulit and I’m so excited kasi dito I’m looking forward to having those confrontations with Angelica kasi I know she can be a very good bitch eh. Gusto kong makita kung puwede akong mas bitchy sa kanya. Si Angel may mga moments na may pagka-bitch siya kasi may kambal siya so yung isa mabait yung isa salbahe. So ang kaaway ko yung salbahe,” she explained.
