After his successful stint as Budoy, Gerald Anderson is challenged to further improve his dramatic prowess as he plays the son of Maricel Soriano in his next teleserye, Bukas Na Lang Kita Mamahalin. He was flattered when told that the Diamond Star wanted to work with him out of all the young stars from the network. Even their co-star Dina Bonnevie said the same thing about him.
“Kapag may two great actresses ang may magandang sinabi sa’yo, it’s very overwhelming. Ngayon pa lang kinakabahan ako kasi panibagong challenge ito. At the same time, alam kong team work lahat at gagawin namin ang best namin,” said Gerald during the story conference for the said soap.
Since he’s not allowed to give details about the project yet, Gerald went on to assure everyone that it’s not going to be a typical soap. For one thing, there’s no pressure for him to have a real-life romance with his new leading lady Cristine Reyes. As everyone knows, she’s the girlfriend of his best bud Rayver Cruz.
“Which is good. I have to hand it down sa mga bagong love teams like Kathryn Bernardo, Daniel Padilla, and Enrique Gil. It’s their turn para sa mga ganong klaseng project. Siyempre napagdaanan ko na ‘yan. And I wouldn’t be here kundi dahil dun. Siyempre at the age of 23 kailangan mas matured ang roles ko para sa career ko. So yung soap na ito mas focused sa acting.”
Asked how he feels that he’s being groomed to be the next Piolo Pascual or John Lloyd Cruz, Gerald maintained that it’s not what keeps him going in show business. “That’s very flattering pero hindi yun ang motivation ko. My motivation is to take it step by step. Bago ka makarating dun, marami ka pang kailangan patunayan. Ang dami kong gustong matutunan. And this is a great stepping stone.”
Will he still make time for love despite the demands of his work? “Let’s see. Ewan ko lang. Hindi siya top priority ko. Kung darating darating.”
