In a live interview with “The Buzz” on Sunday, Alonzo said she was still young then and Cruz was not really hard to like.
Alonzo added even the people around them wanted them to be together because their love team is such a hit.
“Siyempre nung mga bata kami may mga kilig-kilig, hindi mo ma-define kung ano 'yun. Kinikilig ka lang kasi lahat ng tao gusto kayo for each other. Kinikilig ako kasi si John Lloyd kahit na sinong babae kaya niyang paibigin,” she said.
Alonzo, however, maintained that she and Cruz never became a couple.
“Siyempre bata pa ako noon. Feeling ko 'yun na 'yun, 'yun pala hindi pa pala 'yun. Hindi lang talaga nangyari. May mga bagay talaga na hindi mo maipapaliwanag pero hindi talaga siya nangyari. Mahirap naman magsalita ng tapos, baka hindi pa nangyayari or baka hindi mangyayari,” she explained.
But while they did not have a romantic relationship, Alonzo said Cruz will always be special to her because the actor is really a dear friend.
“Namiss ko ang pang-aasar niya. Siya lang ang nakakaasar sa akin ng ganyan. Lahat naman ng tao nirerespeto naman ako, siya lang ang bumabastos sa akin," she said with a laugh.
"Nakakatuwa siya, ganun lang talaga kami mag-asaran. At siya lang ay may lisensya na gumawa sa akin ng ganun,” she added.
Alonzo said she is just grateful that Cruz became her love team partner since he considers him the best actor of their generation.
“Sobra kaming nagkakaintindihan. Siguro 'yung emotional maturity namin nandun na. We talk about the scenes, the emotions," she said about shooting the film "The Mistress," which marks the 10th year of their screen partnership.
"Dito talaga 'yung nilu-look forward ko pumunta sa set kasi makikita ko siya. Alam mo na makikipagbiruan ka sa kanya kasama ang mga staff. Namiss ko siguro talaga siya. Para sa akin, siya ang pinakamagaling na aktor sa henerasyon namin. To share a scene with him, it’s such an honor,” she said.
The Star Cinema movie also stars Ronaldo Valdez and Hilda Koronel.
