Derek Ramsay, Sports Ambassador ng London Olympics 2012

Pumirma ng kontrata si Derek Ramsay bilang official sports ambassador ng TV5 sa London Olympics 2012 at ginanap ang contract signing sa First Pacific Leadership Academy.

Suportado nina TV5 Chairman  Manny V. Pangilinan, TV5 CEO Atty. Ray Espinosa at EVP /COO Bobby Barreiro ang pagiging sports ambassador ni Derek dahil naniniwala sila na makakatulong ang aktor sa layunin ng Kapatid network na hikayatin ang mas maraming Pilipino na sumali sa larangan ng palakasan.

Si Derek ang mangunguna sa delagasyon ng TV5 sa London sa July para ihatid ang pinakamahahalaga na pangyayari sa iba’t ibang sporting events sa Olympics, lalo na sa mga sport na sasalihan ng Pinoy athletes.

Nagpapasalamat si Derek sa malaking tiwala na ibinigay sa kanya ng TV5. Para kay Derek, mahalaga na parte ng paglipat niya sa Kapatid network ang opportunity na magamit ang kanyang hilig sa sports.

Derek Ramsay, Magiging Kapamilya Pa Rin Kaya

“I’m not going to rush this because it’s a big decision,” said Derek Ramsay when asked if he already made up his mind whether or not to stay a Kapamilya. His contract with ABS-CBN expired at the end of February, but the 32 year-old has yet to make a final answer about this matter.

“Nakita na namin yung offer. I think they’re exchanging emails now. I think my dad just sent an email to Sir Gabby (Lopez, Chairman and CEO of ABS-CBN), nag-uusap-usap [pa]. I really don’t know. May little details, sila ang nag-aayos e. So I’m just waiting for their phone call,” he explained in an exclusive interview with ABS-CBN reporters at the thanksgiving party of Corazon: Ang Unang Aswang, Friday, March 23.

Although he has a talent manager, Joji Dingcong, Derek revealed that he seeks his parents’ help when it comes to the business side of his showbiz career. “They’re always involved with everything I do. It’s not the first time na na-involve sila. At the end of every year, I always talk to them over the family holiday and one of the topics we talked about is where my career is going to go. And it just so happened [that] my contract with ABS-CBN has expired this year. So we spoke about it over the holidays. So they’re always involved not just in my career but with everything [that I do], they’re always there.”

Derek clarified though that his parents don’t really advise him about the kind of projects that he should do. “They don’t get involve with that kasi they’re not showbiz people. They don’t know anything about showbiz. They’re business people. For them, it’s more of what happens throughout the years, they’re going to weigh that. Those are the things that they look into and put into my sight. It’s not about choosing projects or certain things.”

Given a chance though, he revealed that his dad would prefer to see him in projects that would showcase his lifestyle and interests in real life. “My dad was vocal in the meeting with Sir Gabby that he would like to see me doing things that are from my background, like sports and stuff like that. ABS-CBN is supportive of the sport that I do. He mentioned that in the meeting, but it’s not about projects like Corazon. They wouldn’t know what to say about that.”

Asked what else does he want after many successful movies and teleseryes, Derek told us that he’s not demanding for a higher talent fee or specific roles that would showcase him as a serious actor. “I’m just going to continue doing the same thing that I’ve been doing. I want to be me. I’m not going to demand for sure for roles. And that’s what I told ABS-CBN. I’m not going to demand for a price, I’m not going to demand for a project. I want yung sariling bigay. You know, it doesn’t have to be [something] new. I just want to see what they want to give me. Masarap ‘pag ganon e. It’s not like I’m demanding them to give it to me. Ayoko ng ganon.”

It appears that Derek would remain a Kapamilya and is merely ironing out some details in his contract. As it is, he said that he’s actually a loyal type of guy and cited his working relationship with his manager as an example. “Yes, I’m a very loyal guy and I’m not going to throw this all out there, because  and they don’t know what's really going on. I have my manager Joji. I don’t have a contract with Joji, but I’ve been with him for over six years—my whole showbiz career I’ve been with Joji. And my word is better than whatever I put down on paper. Yeah, he's (Joji) involved with this, my family's involved, of course I put in what I feel—It’s a combined [decision].”

Derek Ramsay got emotional during the screening of Corazon: Ang Unang Aswang at SM The Block last March 14. In an interview, he admitted that it was his first time to shed tears over his own movie. A film by Richard Somes, Corazon tells the story of a young couple who are trying to have a baby, only to get caught up with a frightening turn of events. “Hindi ko nga alam kung anong sasabihin ko, pero first time ko umiyak sa pelikulang ginawa ko. Siguro four times akong umiyak habang pinapanood. Ito na yung hinintay talaga namin. Now that I’ve watched it, it’s definitely my favorite film. I’m proud of Erich Gonzales, Direk Richard (Somes) and of course myself.”

Aside from the fact that it took two years to make, Derek was amazed with how the movie showcased a love story and horror theme in a well-crafted manner. “Alam naming successful siya kasi we’re able to accomplish that na nandun yung emotions, yung pain at yung takot. At first, you’ll see the love between husband and wife and then everything changes into horror, and then at the end, everyone's looking forward to what will happen with the two characters, so ang daming highlights sa pelikula.”

Coming from the success of No Other Woman and Praybeyt Benjamin, some people are wondering whether or not Derek’s next film would also be a box office hit. But rather than worry about other people’s expectations, Derek shared that Corazon actually inspired him to pursue his craft no matter what. “There’s no pressure on my part. I really enjoyed watching the movie. I’m very proud of what I’ve accomplished in my past two movies, pero ito yung nagpatunay sa sarili ko na gusto ko na talaga ang craft ko, hilig ko na talaga ang umarte. Ito talaga ang first role ko na talagang umarte ako, walang [halong] Derek Ramsay ang makikita sa pelikulang ito.”

BINASAG NI Derek Ramsay ang pananahimik tungkol sa issue ng paglipat niya sa TV5 sa presscon ng Corazon: Ang Unang Aswang with Erich Gonzales sa direksiyon ni Richard Somes under Skylight Films and Reality Entertainment. Nilinaw ng actor na hindi pa siya pumipirma ng kontrata sa Kapatid Network.

Ayon sa kanya, nag-expire na ang kontrata niya sa ABS-CBN at nakipag-meeting na siya sa mga big boss na sina Gabby Lopez, Charo Santos at Malou Santos. Naging maganda naman ang pag-uusap nila ng ABS-CBN executives.

“Sir Gabby had very nice things to say about me, tungkol sa pagkatao ko which I really appreciated and sinabi ko naman sa kanya na my mind is open for anything. Gusto ko lang nga is sariling kusa na manggaling sa kanila,” say ng binata.

Sinabi ni Derek na wala pa raw offer ang Kapamilya Network pero pinagagawan siya ng list kung ano ang gusto niyang idagdag sa kontrata.

“Hindi ako ganu’n na artista, ayokong mag-demand. Gusto ko, sarili nilang kusa. I wanted it to come from them. Ang trato ko sa ABS-CBN is pamilya so, manggaling na lang sa kanila kung ano ang gusto nilang ibigay,” dugtong pa niya.

By this time, dumating na siguro ang offer ng ABS-CBN kay Derek kahit wala pang confirmation ang paglipat niya sa Singko. Pero kasama sa options niya ang paglipat sa nasabing network.

“I’ve always been very open about that and that’s what really nice of Tita Malou, when I told her. I’m going to be open this year for career changes,” say niya.

Nabalita ring si Derek daw ang magiging host ng The Amazing Race ng Singko. Pinabulaan ng aktor ang balita. Nagtataka raw siya kung saan nanggaling ang balita. Gusto niyang sumali sa reality show bilang contestant hindi bilang host. Pinaliwanag din ni Derek kung sakaling lilipat nga raw siya, hindi dahil sa pera.

“I love this network, they’ve done a lot for me and there were also a lot of disappointing times for me. Tumatanda na rin ako, lahat ‘yun, pag-uusapan,” paglilinaw ng aktor.

Sa nasabing drama-love, horror story, gaganap na mag-asawa sina Derek at Erich. Ang kanilang pagmamahalan at spiritual faith ay dadaan sa isang malaking pagsubok. Of course, nag-aapoy ang love scene ng dalawa.

“Sa No Other Woman, I would say there was a great cast, great din ‘yung mga scenes. Dito sa Corazon, iba. The love scene has no violence but there is passion. Merong eksena sa batis, kung saan-saan… And when you’re an actor, you just shut yourself down, but you have to respect her as well,” pahayag niya.

Tinukso tuloy si Erich kung sa bed scene nila ni Derek, hinahaplos-haplos nito ang abs ng morenong aktor.

“Siya itong humahaplos-haplos sa akin,” natatawang sabi ng dalaga. Napag-alaman namin na magkasabay palang ginawa ng dalawa ang Magkaribal at Corazon kaya almost everyday magkasama sila. Nand’yanng pinaimbita pa ng mommy ni Derek si Erich sa bahay nila for dinner. Nagkaroon tuloy ng intriga between Erich and Angelica Panganiban. Nagkapaliwanagan na raw ang dalawa kaya tapos na ang issue tungkol sa kanila.

Ayon kay Corazon (Erich) nagbabatian na sila tuwing nagkakasalubungan sa hallway ng ABS-CBN.

Derek Ramsay couldnt stop the tears from flowing while talking about his parents on The Buzz last Sunday, March 4. According to the actor, his greatest fear is losing his parents and hes come scarily close to that due to their present ailments. Dereks father is currently experiencing feet and stomach pains but refuses to see a doctor. The father of the Fil-Brit actor was supposed to finally go to the hospital but decided to cancel his consultation and attend a meeting with his son and ABS-CBN executives instead. Dereks mom, on the other hand, is recovering from a mild stroke. The actor often portrays tough guy roles but when it comes to his parents, he quickly turns into mush. Biggest fear kaya ayokong isipin. I cant entertain the thought na mawawala (ang mga magulang ko), shared Derek. According to the dramatic actor, family will always come first. And I try my best to make them proud. Its a great feeling that my parents are there for me, he shared. Another topic that was discussed during the interview is his relationship with Angelica Panganiban. After five years of being together the love that they have for each other has only grown stronger. The relationship is getting stronger and stronger every day, even though we dont get to spend as much time together, shared the Fil-Brit actor. The relationship is still going forward and thats whats important and shes definitely growing as a person and I am growing as a person. According to Derek, knowing Angel has made him a better person. Like what my sister said, she never has seen me this happy, and my parents are very happy with my relationship and how it has affected me. Angel has made me a better person. Angel has given me direction and di na masyado matigas ang ulo ko when it comes to other things in life, he enthused.

HINDI PA sure si Derek Ramsay kung lilipat siya sa Singko o mananatiling Kapamilya.

“I love this network (ABS-CBN),” sabi ng binata na bida sa Corazon, Ang Unang Aswang, kung saan kasama niya si Erich Gonzales. Pero sinabi niyang meron din namang “disappointing times”.

“‘Yun ‘yung wine-weigh namin. Let’s see where my future will go, what’s best for me. Tumatanda na rin ako. Lahat ‘yun pinag-uusapan namin. I can’t make a decision right now. We will weigh all of this,” esplika niya.

Aminado si Derek na nakipag-meeting ang pamilya niya kay Gabby Lopez.

“The first thing we laid on the table is that it’s not about money. This is definitely not about money and I’ve proven that. I don’t know how things will work.”

Aminado naman si Derek na malaki ang utang na loob niya sa Dos.

“A big deal of my career is Judy Ann Santos and this network. They both made me who I am now.” Noong 2009 naging leading man si Derek ni Juday sa teleseryeng Ysabella. Doon nagsimula ang kanyang television career.

“I’ve always been open for that,” tugon ni Derek sa posibilidad ng paglipat niya sa ibang network.

“I’m open this year for career changes.”

PARANG MABUBULILYASO pa ang paglipat ni Derek Ramsay sa TV5.

Bakit? Kasi naman, ibinalita niya sa Twitter na nagsimula na siyang mag-shoot ng movie niya with Bea Alonzo.

Feeling namin, naayos na ang anumang tampo ni Derek sa Dos at dahil dito ay hindi niya nakayang iwan ang network para maging Kapatid.

Ang balita namin, isang reality show ang gagawin ni Derek for TV5. Bukod pa ito sa isang sitcom with Maricel Soriano.

Pero tingnan natin, malay n’yo, TV shows lang ang gagawin ni Derek sa TV5 at hindi kasama sa offer niya ang movies. Sa showbiz pa, anything can happen. Minsan nga, kahit na nakapagsimula na ang isang celebrity ng isang project ay nase-shelve pa ito.
